Christmas in Peru is a week-long celebration for most people. Schools are out until March and working adults generally take the week to spend with family. Kids look forward to the gifts that Papa Noel will bring to them. The big day, however, is Christmas Eve. Families gather for a traditional

Christmas dinner which includes turkey or chicken, baked potatoes, salad and hot chocolate with paneton, an Italian-style fruitcake.

The dinner begins at 11:00 p.m. and ends just in time to open presents at midnight. People hug each other and wish the very best to the family. Finally, the food is served, and stories and anecdotes are shared.
While the kids eagerly open and play with their new toys, adults mingle, drink and dance until well past 4:00 a.m.

Most travelers to Peru find themselves in Lima at one time or another and the majority of those passing through will end up spending at least a day or two in Peru's capitol city Lima.

A favorite spot for visitors is the tourist friendly district of Miraflores, a bustling area with a variety of hotels and hostels, all within walking distance from the apartment, plenty of shopping and dining. If you plan on staying a day or two in Miraflores, in "my blog" you will fin a few sights you won't want to miss.

Miraflores, has a modern infrastructure, highlighting the malls, streets tidy and safe. Its green areas are comfortable and calm and has a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean. The residents of Miraflores are very attentive to visitors, you can walk calmly in Miraflores.

There is a great number of hotels and inns, restaurants offering both local and international dishes, all these services are offered at all economic levels. For the fun it offers theater, cinema, or an art gallery, Miraflores has an active cultural life. The discos and pubs are very busy, try our delicious Pisco Sour and enjoy music from rock, pop, electronic music, salsa and cumbia, the movement is spectacular during the weekend.

A central main street that runs from the "Ovalo de Larco" all the way to Parque Salazar, about 12 blocks of a variety of shops, banks, internet, casinos and much more. On this route you will pass by Parque Kennedy, the main Church, the famous "Street of pizzas," and at the complex called "Larcomar" which houses more shops and entertainment right by the ocean.

Other places with a lot of movement are the Ovalo Gutierrez, which is at the limit with the district of San Isidro, where you find good alternatives to eat, drink, have a good time, or simply view the latest releases of motion pictures.

If you want a superb view of the sea, traverse the entire route of the cliffs on the "Malecón de la reserva" and the "Malecón Armendariz". The visit "Parque del Amor" and shopping mall "Larcomar".

If you are looking to buy crafts we encourage you to visit the business premises of crafts tours of the "Av. Petit Tours" near the "ovalo" of Miraflores, where products are marketed in different regions of the country.

And for lovers of antiques, at "Av. la paz" block 6, and "Av. Belisario Suarez" block 13, located several shops devoted to this specialty. If you are looking for jewelry found in many local blocks 2 to 5 "Av. La Paz".

Do not forget that much of what the charming city of Lima is in this district,.....

Adventure in the sky ......

If you really feel adventurous you might want to try paragliding ....
last november I visited Lima with my son ..... everytime we drove by the Malecon Cisneros we saw the paragliders over the Costa Verde an exciting sight to see. I had seen the paragliders over Larco, but never thought about doing it. Just the thought of being up there terrified me ...... but the more we saw it the more excited we got ... .... unfortunately we picked the worst day, there was no wind and later it started to rain so all our hope of flying was gone. Next time we go to Lima I will make sure do it as soon as we get there.

They offer these flights all year round, usually they are at noon when the wind starts picking up. I think it is a unique experience dare to take a thrilling paraglider flight over the beautiful Costa Verde's ridge. The breeze coming in from the ocean provides for some fantastic lift - the area is well known among paragliders for smooth flights with little turbulence. In tandem flight, the rider is taken up in a large, stable paraglider made for two people. There is no need to worry -- you will have a qualified guide and instructor with you for the entire duration of the flight. This 15 to 20 minutes long flight will surely be an experience that you will always remember!

For those who have never paraglided but want to experience the thrill of flight, there are several companies that provide tandem rides over the Costa Verde. Fly Adventure does tandem rides over the Costa Verde, as do AeroXtreme and FlyPeru. And if tandem riding isn’t enough excitement, all three places also offer classes in solo paragliding
